Hi, I'm Jay!

My name is Jay Filer. Currently, I am a tattoo artist at Noble Coyote Tattoo in Chicago, IL. I am also genderqueer and use they/them/theirs pronouns. I have many artistic inspirations that influence my work. I'd describe my style as primarily black and grey, fineline, and illustrative. I tend to focus on material that is natural, nostalgic, and whimsical. I'm heavily inspired by botanicals, textile crafts and patterns, and nostalgic media. Don't fret, I LOVE to tattoo with color too! Outside of tattooing, I enjoy cross-stitching, vending at local art markets, haunting local coffee shops, and caring for my cats: Mouse(rat) and Nami.

I have considered myself an artist for my entire life. I've explored a number of mediums over the years, and have really found my groove with tattooing. I started tattooing in August of 2022. First, I explored handpoking, then later transitioned to a machine and handpoke hybrid style. I am excited to learn more about the art form as I continue my tattooing journey!
